Eight objects. Eight stories. Eight storytellers. Telling Tales marks the second collaboration between LCC and BT Archives, bringing together MA Design Writing Criticism students with BT archivists gaining access to backroom stores heaving with telecommunications artefacts, photographs and printed matter. Where else could you see a push button Mickey Mouse telephone, Tom Eckersley posters and a sprawling collection of phone books in one of London’s landmarks — the Holborn Telephone Exchange? It is been about making connections: from engaging with the materiality of objects to their theoretical framing within social and design history as well as establishing links between researching and writing about and into design.
